My Approach

I am a licensed clinical psychologist.

My practice integrates science, theory, and clinical knowledge to understand, prevent, and treat distress as well as to promote well-being and personal development.

I approach therapy from the perspective of strengths, not simply problems or systems, and I integrate environment, physical health, family of origin, as well as past and current relationships to understand and guide you toward your goals.

My background

My training provided extensive background in assessment, clinical formulation, and psychotherapy as well as research, teaching, and consultation.

I received my PhD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where I was a National Institute of Mental Health graduate research fellow.

My doctoral dissertation examined the impact of stressful relationships on cardiovascular health.

I completed post-doctoral fellowships at Emory University’s School of Medicine (Psychoneuroimmunology), the Rollins School of Public Health (STD Prevention and Intervention), and Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta (Substance Abuse Disorders and Trauma).

My clinical training included an internship at the Syracuse Veterans Administration Medical Center. Subsequently, I worked at a community-based outpatient clinic under the auspices of the Atlanta VMAC.

I worked in the CDC’s National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention, and bring 25 years of teaching and research to my collective experiences, having most recently held a psychology faculty position at Georgia State University.

I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional and am a member of the International Society for Traumatic Stress and Dissociative Disorders.
